Craft Hub is a European project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme focused on Craft in the context of cultural heritage and its continuing relevance in contemporary practice.
Cathryn took part in March 2022 in the Craft Hub Maker Residency in Matera Italy.
Using waste materials that usually appear on the inside of commercial furniture production, this project demonstrates how the offcuts can be used to create new textile materials for interior applications.
In a DIY approach, using a drill, a clamp and a clip, the materials were spun and finished using rope making techniques. The waste materials were reimagined as new yarns and are displayed on a frame to demonstrate how they could be used for new furniture and the potential of these low value materials.
